New approaches to study Ub and UbL modifications (ORGANIZED BY PROTEOSTASIS)

Event Date: 17 September, 2016 to 24 September, 2016

The ubiquitin field is expanding at an astounding pace, and the techniques used to interrogate it are becoming ever more sophisticated. In particular the cross-talk between ubiquitin and ubiquitin-like modification, and the emergence of ubiquitin modification by e.g. phosphorylation represent just two new areas of research that require new concepts and strategies. For scientists early in their career or researchers entering the field, the complexity of the ubiquitin/Ubl system is mind-boggling.

This format of the course has been tried-and-tested and is confirmed to be of very high quality via previous feedbacks.. This year the activity is organized by David Komander (active member of the network, WG1).

The course consists of entry-level, educational lectures by distinguished leaders in the field, and has a strong practical component, whereby practicals in various methods allow students to gain experience with in vitro biochemistry, chemical biology and bioinformatics experiments, in part on their own, provided samples. The specialised skill- and technique-set to interrogate ubiquitin and ubiquitin-like modifications in vitro and in cells should in particular benefit scientists from laboratories that are unfamiliar with these methods.
The course is highly interactive, and selected students and teachers are encouraged to engage in a wide range of activities outside of the lectures and the fairly intense practical sessions. All teachers and tutors are accessible and for the entire duration of the course, and open discussion rounds enable interactions beyond scientific discourse.
