Final Meeting (“Proteostatic Mechanisms in Health and Disease“) of the COST Action BM1307 PROTEOSTASIS led by CIC bioGUNE held in Athens (Greece) on the 22-24 February 2018

The Final Meeting counted with the participation of the Action Management Committee and Core Groups members, besides other participants, especially early career investigators (Phd students and post-doctoral fellows). The COST Programme Scientific Officer (Dr. Inga Dadeshidze), who assessed very positively all achievements and results of the Action, also attended the Meeting.

We would also like to outline the participation and the talk by the Nobel Laureate Aaron Ciechanover (Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel), one of the reference experts in the field of protein homeostasis, and the keynote speakers Prof. Daniel Finley (Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA), Nektarios Tavernarakis (IMBB-FORTH & University of Crete, Heraklion, Greece), Kelvin J.A. Davies (University of Southern California, Los Angeles, USA), in addition to a superb selection of invited speakers and selected Abstract form PROTEOSTASIS members.

PROTEOSTASIS Final Meeting fully achieved its main objectives:

  • To disseminate research accomplishments by members of the PROTEOSTASIS network, outlining the collaborative aspects enhanced through the participation in the activities organized in previous years.
  • Discussions on the role of proteostatic mechanisms in physiology and disease in multiple experimental systems including Biomedicine and Biotechnology.
  • Establishment of the basis for the exploitation and follow up of the network and how to capitalize the knowledge gather in the previous years.

The attendees assessed the meeting as instrumental and very beneficial for the future of the network, besides highlighting it as an important milestone for cohesion, initiation of collaborations and rising of initiatives.
